Defensive Handgun Course
DATES: November 17, 18, 19, 20, 2008
LOCATION: The famous Ben Avery Shooting Facility, right off of Interstate 17, on the north side of Phoenix, AZ.
GENERAL INFORMATION: This is the perfect course for the serious beginning student, covering virtually the entire spectrum of information inherent to the subject of Defensive Handgunning. Two 4-hour classroom sessions from 0800-1200 on the first two days provide critical insights to important subjects like Deadly Force and the Law, Handgun Stopping Power, Weapon, Ammunition and Ancillary Equipment Selection, The Principles of Tactics, Situational and Environmental Awareness, Tactical/Criminal/Civil Liability Hazards, Mental Conditioning, and much more!
The rest of the 4-days will be spent on the range, developing the student's weapon-handling and shooting skills. Specific topics include: Stance & Grip, Weapon Presentations from Ready & Holster, Single and Multiple Target Engagements from 3 to 15-meters, Multiple targets, Failures to Stop, Responses to the Right, Left & Rear, Small Targets at Close Range, Malfunction-Clearing, Speed & Tactical Reloading, Close-Quarters Encounters, Tactical Problem-Solving (Scenarios), Working From and around a Vehicle, Proper Use of Cover, and more.
In several tactical problems, students will be working from and around a vehicle, engaging multiple graphic targets; vehicle dismounting techniques are also covered.
The student's skills will be sufficiently developed to allow a skill test the afternoon of the last day of the course. The top 15% of the class will earn a Distinguished Graduate certificate. Graduates of this course will have a COMPLETE perspective on the subject of Defensive Handgunning and be fully capable of making the important decisions needed to satisfy their particular defensive needs.
